It’s still one of the better albums of 2012 for sure which is saying a lot cause there were so many fucking classics that came out that year. But it’s when he starts venturing towards the more artful side of writing that it kinda falls a little flat for me. As with his first album, Miguel wrote every song on Kaleidoscope Dream, but this time he produced many of them too, making it a rare work of artist-conceived, radio-ready R&B. There’s some singles from that album that are fucking perfection though like “Adorn”, “How Many Drinks?” and even deep cuts like “Pussy is mine” which highlight Miguel’s strengths as a singer and R&B/Pop writer. Also I feel like some verses and choruses don’t really stick the landing melodically, like Miguel just stuck with the first melody that came to mind. Songfacts: Speaking about the Kaleidoscope Dream long player on iHeart Radios Power 105.1 Breakfast Club Morning Show, Miguel said, The whole album is more. There’s some songs that don’t really go anywhere or that build up to some anti climatic instrumental ending like the title track for example. But if I’m being honest I feel like kaleidoscope dream has way more low points compared to channel orange lyrically and musically. I’ve actually been revisiting it a lot this past month and have had similar thoughts to you. The singer, songwriter, and producer scored his first hit as a composer via Jaheims Finding My Way Back.
